John Wayne

From college football player, to film extra, to numerous bit parts in B-films, Marion Michael Morrison, nicknamed “The Duke”, got his big break as “The Ringo Kid” in the 1939 western classic “Stagecoach”. In no time at all Wayne became an A-list superstar & established himself as the world’s favorite movie tough guy. In 1970 Wayne won an Oscar for his portrayal of Marshall Reuben “Rooster” Cogburn in “True Grit”. When he accepted his Oscar he stated “If I’d known this was all it would take, I’d have put that eyepatch on 40 years ago”.
