Jerry Lewis’s Top 10 Movies on DVD

At War With The Army [DVD](1950) DVD
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis' first starring vehicle boosted them to instant fame. Jerry is a not-cut-out-for-the-army private who helps womanizing sergeant Dean Martin iron out some of the wrinkles in his love life. 72 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby mono; scene access.

The Caddy(1953) VHS
Martin and Lewis break par for laughs in this zany tale of hi-jinx on the golf links, with caddy Jerry trying to help duffer Dean win at Pebble Beach. Donna Reed supplies the romance, there's cameos by Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and other golfers, and Dino sings "That's Amore." 95 min.

Pardners(1956) VHS
Lively Martin-Lewis outing with Jerry as a wealthy New York millionaire who teams with ranch foreman Dean to fight a group of ornery cowpokes starting trouble in a Western town. Lots of slapstick, shooting and songs. With Lori Nelson, Jeff Morrow, Agnes Moorehead and Milton Frome. 88 min.

The Delicate Delinquent(1957) VHS
In his first solo outing, Jerry Lewis plays a nerdy janitor who gets caught in the middle of a gang rumble and is arrested. Policeman Darren McGavin helps reform the "delinquent" Lewis, who soon becomes a cop. A mirthful mix of silliness and sentiment; with Martha Hyer, Rocky Marciano. 100 min.

The Geisha Boy(1958) VHS
One of Jerry Lewis' funniest romps has him as a third-rate magician on a USO tour of the Orient, where he falls for a Japanese widow, befriends her young son and gets into all sorts of hilarious situations. Sessue Hayakawa, Marie McDonald, Suzanne Pleshette and the L.A. Dodgers co-star, and there's lots of great jokes provided by writer/director Frank Tashlin. 98 min.

Rock-A-Bye Baby(1958) VHS
Jerry Lewis is a TV repairman smitten with actress Marilyn Maxwell, who has married a Mexican bullfighter. After the matador dies suddenly, a pregnant Maxwell needs someone to look after her child before word leaks out and ruins her image, and Lewis is tapped to serve as "nanny." Things get complicated, though, when she gives birth to triplets! Director Frank Tashlin's take on "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek" also stars Connie Stevens, Salvatore Baccaloni and Reginald Gardiner. 103 min.

The Nutty Professor [DVD](1963) DVD
Considered by many to be his best film, writer/director/star Jerry Lewis' slapstick spin on the Jekyll/Hyde story finds him, as nerdy college professor Julius Kelp, inventing a mysterious potion that turns him into hip, conceited stud Buddy Love (whose persona, some say, was based on Dean Martin). Stella Stevens plays his love interest, Miss Purdy. "Vive le Jerry Lewis"--Paris Times. 107 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French mono; Subtitles: English; featurette; scene access.

The Disorderly Orderly(1964) VHS
The diagnosis is bellylaugh after bellylaugh when Jerry Lewis, as an attendant who experiences "sympathy pains," turns a quiet nursing home upside down. Hilarious hospital hi-jinx with Susan Oliver, Jack E. Leonard. 90 min.

Boeing Boeing(1965) VHS
Jet-setting bedroom farce stars Tony Curtis as a swinging bachelor who juggles three stewardess girlfriends from different airlines, much to the envy of pal Jerry Lewis. The arrangement works perfectly, until schedule changes lead to hilarious complications. With Thelma Ritter, Suzanna Leigh. 102 min.

The King Of Comedy [DVD](1983) DVD
Talk-show host Jerry Lewis is abducted by obsessive fan Robert De Niro, a would-be comic desperate for fame, in Martin Scorsese's offbeat, funny look at celebrity's dark side. With Sandra Bernhard, Diahnne Abbott. 109 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital stereo, Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono, Spanish Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, Spanish; "making of" featurette; TV spot; photo gallery; theatrical trailer.
